Clinical Engineering

Aims & Objectives

To introduce biomedical engineers to the branch of clinical engineering. Clinical Engineering departments in modern hospitals are playing a very important role concerning safe and cost effective use of medical equipment. Tasks covered by clinical engineers today include, maintenance, quality control, safety and risk management, contacts follow-up, user training for a comprehensive management of biomedical technology from the equipment procurement up to the replacement. The objective is students to learn what clinical engineering is dealing with, tools and methods applied for effective management of medical equipment’s and be aware of related activities world-wide such as vigilance and patient safety, quality assurance and accreditation.

Health Care Technology Assessment

Aims & Objectives

This topic aims to describe the important role that health technology assessment can play in decisions about health policy and medical practice. It places HTA as a tool among others, in the broad challenge of bridging the ‘know-do’ gap in health care management. Because one of the most important challenges to improving the quality of health systems worldwide is the need to establish mechanisms for transferring knowledge to action. The HTA community, with its agencies, associations, and researchers, has developed its role around contributing to this effort
